Kings defenseman Drew Doughty left Wednesday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes after the first period with what the Kings described as an upper-body injury.
Doughty, a Norris Trophy finalist last season, was on the ice for the final minute of the first period but did not take the ice for the start of the second period after an apparent collision with Carolina's Erik Cole.
The Kings announced that Doughty was unlikely to return for the rest of the game. Doughty's status for Thursday's game at Phoenix is not yet known.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 Draft, Doughty has played 168 NHL games over three seasons and had 16 goals and 43 assists in 82 games last season. The Phoenix Coyotes announced today that Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings has been designated Hockey Fights Cancer awareness night.

Coyotes' Defenseman Keith Yandle and Forwards Vernon Fiddler, Radim Vrbata, Scottie Upshall and Petr Prucha will wear special Hockey Fights Cancer hats during all pre-game and post-game interviews and Coyotes players will sport a Hockey Fights Cancer decal on their helmets. In addition, all coaches and FOX Sports Arizona broadcasters Dave Strader, Tyson Nash and Todd Walsh will wear Hockey Fights Cancer ties throughout the evening.
The Coyotes will acknowledge families from the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Oncology department attending the game in the First Period of tomorrow’s contest.
